For professional, long lasting results, braided sleeving should be cut with a hot knife or similar instrument to cut and seal the ends to prevent fraying during installation and use. In most cases, a hot knife will make your braided sleeving installation project go a lot smoother than just cutting the sleeving with a scissor. A hot knife not only cuts through sleeving like a, well, like a hot knife, but also seals the ends to prevent fraying during the installation. You can cut all your pieces in advance, and install them at your leisure.Using a hot knife is simple. Just follow the directions, work slowly and carefully and you will produce a finished end that will last a long time.

For small projects, or when AC power isn't available, this refillable butane powered torch from Solder-It fills the bill for cutting and sealing braided sleeving. Easy pushbutton ignition.Temperature adjusts up to 500° C. Up to 3 hour capacity.
